Requirements

Any writer interested in being promoted to an editor must have written consistently for at least one month prior to applying. Consistency does not necessarily describe quantity over quality. You should be very familiar with Rewrite processes and the Style Guide.

How to Apply

Once you are ready to apply, contact and ask for the "Writer to Editor Test." Please bear in mind that your performance in the editing test will not affect your writer position in any way.

Change in Role

If you successfully pass the test and are promoted to an editor, you will be required to meet the editing quota (one edit per month) in order to keep your new position and the "Rewrite Editor" banner on your MAL profile.

Make sure to thoroughly read our Editor Instructions before beginning your work. Note that editors are still allowed to write synopses of their own, but these will not count toward any quotas.

Retakes

If you fail the test on your first attempt, you are allowed a retake after waiting at least one month before trying again. It is recommended that you reread our Style Guide and review in the meantime. You are allowed to keep retaking the test until we run out of questions.

Editor Training

Writers can prepare for the Writer to Editor Test under the supervision of a coordinator. With their guidance, the writers will get to practice editing and familiarize themselves with the editing process prior to taking the test. If you are interested, please contact .
