Why are we doing this?

Some writers are interested in becoming editors, but despite their constant effort, they are unable to improve enough for promotion. In order to help struggling writers learn how to edit better, we have established a comprehensive, one-on-one tutoring system. Hands-on experience is crucial and can be a game-changer for many people.

How can you join?

All writers who have failed the Writer-to-Editor Test at least twice are eligible. Those who are interested in the program should contact the editing manager.

Who are the mentors?

Mentoring will generally be handled by the editing manager. In the case that this is inconvenient for either party (e.g. due to time zone issues), another coordinator may act as a mentor.

What does it entail?

Mentees will become junior editors. They are allowed to edit, but all of their work must be reviewed and approved by a coordinator. Furthermore, junior editors cannot access the #editors channel on Discord or receive any other editor-exclusive access, privileges, and benefits.

When does it end?

The program has no defined length. When the mentee feels they are ready to do so, they may take the Writer-to-Editor Test (given that they have not yet taken the test four times). If the mentee has taken the test four times or more, the editing manager, often after discussing with other coordinators, will decide whether the mentee is to be promoted.

Can a mentor change?

For various reasons, a mentor might well be unable to fulfill their role, or a mentee might have concerns about their mentor's performance. In such cases, well-justified requests for a different mentor will be honored. Mentor-related concerns should be brought up with the editing manager. If this does not resolve the issue, it may be brought up with the co-leaders.
